Tu, ó Portugal, que, com tanta glória,
Soubeste nascer, viver… caducar.
Do enaltecer do orgulho de amar
Criaste a minha épica história.
Contudo, com o tempo, a memória
Foi-se sempre esquecendo de apagar.
Erros passados e continuar
a seguir uma vida ilusória.
Inconsciente do frio futuro,
No entanto, agora, afiguro

e a Portugal desejou regressar.
Em Coimbra se formou
e a Medicina dominou

Adolfo pobre nasceu.

Role-play on discrimination
Scene 1 – Sexual Orientation
Marriage commissioner: And now I pronounce you Husband and Husband... You may kiss ...
Tom: Boo.... boo....oo!
Jerry: Disgusting...
John : What? Can’t I be happy with the person I love?
Tom: NO! You don’t have the right to love!
Jerry: You don’t have the right to live at all!
Oscar: You didn’t use to care about that, I guess. Just because John decided to marry me...I was said you really enjoyed his friendship. Why don’t you want that now? What has changed?
Tom: God spoke to me, you know... He said a gay marriage is wrong! Being gay is wrong!
Marriage commissioner: Excuse me! Everyone should live their lives with the people they love, regardless of their sexual orientation, colour …
Jerry: Maybe you’re right. Sorry!
John : It’s ok! Can´t you understand and accept us?
Tom: I didn´t use to think about it... but now I er... I fear … er … I don’t want you to fall in love with me, that’s it!
Oscar: But he’s marrying me, he loves me! He won’t fall in love with you! Even if that happened, nothing would change!
Tom: What are you suggesting?! Are you insane? I´m a straight guy... That could never happen!
John and Oscar: You´re really pathetic...
Scene 2 – Gender
(A street newspaper seller in London…)
Newspaper seller: Come here! Are you looking for a job? Get the right newspaper here! Find a post available for one of the most well known companies …
Heaven: Good morning! I ´ll buy that newspaper. I want to apply for that job…
Ty: Hi! I´ll also buy it, please.
Mary: Hello! Give me one as well.
Newspaper seller: Here you are! Good luck.
…….. …….
(The three candidates were selected for the interview at the company: Mary, a woman who lost her looks, Heaven and Ty)
Interviewer: Please, come in.
(Ty comes in)
Interviewer: Sit down and make yourself comfortable. Your CV is not bad… Tell me why you want to work for us…
Ty: I believe I´m qualified for the job, Sir and…
(Half an hour later…)
Interviewer : Hum! Well… er… There weren´t any other male candidates at the waiting room, were there?
Ty: No, Sir. Just me, I believe.
Interviewer: You´re a lucky man. You´re hired. We don´t think the job is appropriate for women, you see…
Ty(excited): That´s great… wonderful, Sir! When do I start working?
Interviewer: Next Monday… at 9.00…
Ty: Thank you, Sir. Good afternoon, Sir.
(Ty goes away)
Interviewer: Miss, will you come in?
(Mary enters the room)
Interviewer: Let´s go straight to the point, Mary! I´m afraid you won’t fit the job…
Mary: But... er…. , Sir,…. I have got a very good CV, haven´t I?
Interviewer: In fact you are too much qualified, I´m afraid. I´m sure you´ll find the right post for you soon...
Mary: But...
Interviewer: ( Looking at his watch...) And now if you excuse me... It´s late and I have another interview to lead...
Interviewer: (showing her the way out...) Good afternoon!
Mary: But...
Interviewer: Please come in, Miss.
(Heaven comes in)
Interviewer: Sit down, please. I´ve read your CV, Heaven, but I couldn´t quite understand why you applied for this post...
Heaven: Good afternoon, Sir. In my opinion that´s the type of job I could easily...
Interviewer: Sorry to interrupt you but I don´t think you could respond to the demanding skills it requires...
Heaven: I beg your pardon!? Are you making fun of me?
Interviewer: Of course not. I´m just convinced women won’t fit this position...
Heaven: I can´t believe my eyes!!! People like you should be in hell, women and men are equal, you know... It’s a crime to treat women like that! Be sure I’m going to complain about your attitude and your company... Gender discrimination in the 21st century??? Unbelievable!!!
Interviewer: It´s not personal, you see...
(Heaven stands up and goes out of the room)
Interviewer: Please wait...
Scene 3 – Colour
Teacher: Good morning! I have a surprise for you! From now on, we’ll have a new student. Come here (The new student approaches) (The whole class is shocked because she’s black and has a big scar on her face). Can you introduce yourself to your new friends?
Mya (shy): Good morning… I’m Mya and I come from Zimbabwe in Africa. Well, I moved here because my parents died at war and an aunt of mine is now taking care of me…
Teacher: As you can see, Mya’s life wasn’t easy. I hope you can make her feel at ease as fast as you can! (The bell rings) You can go out now!
(In the playground…)
Giny: The new girl is there by herself… Shouldn’t we invite her to sit next to us, Jess?
Jess: Are you mad? Can’t you see she’s black?
Giny: What´s the problem? Should we judge her just for the colour of her skin? Isn’t she like all of us inwardly?
Jess: But…
Giny: Ok! If you don’t want to talk to her, you’ll stay here on your own…
(Giny approaches Mya)
Giny: Hello! Do you like our school?
Mya: Yes… Everyone is being nice to me, but…
Giny: What?
Mya: The girl you were sitting next to… Er... it seems she doesn’t like me…
Giny: Er… she’s just a little bit afraid because you’re new and bl-.. never mind!
Mya: Just because I’m black?
